Dermaplaning

What Is Dermaplaning?
The Most Satisfying Skin Transformation You Can Have in 45 Minutes

Dermaplaning is a professional skin resurfacing treatment in which Ian uses a surgical-grade scalpel, angled at precisely 45 degrees, to gently scrape the surface of your skin in short, controlled strokes. In a single session, the treatment removes the outermost layer of accumulated dead skin cells and all the fine vellus hair (peach fuzz) from your face simultaneously.

The result is immediate and dramatic: skin that feels genuinely smooth often for the first time in months a visible brightening and clarity of complexion, and a surface so clean and receptive that every skincare product you apply afterwards penetrates significantly more deeply and works significantly more effectively.

Available in three professional packages at Faceit by Ian in Walton-on-Thames including the Ekseption Dermaplane with four bespoke mask options, the Million Dollar Dermaplane and the comprehensive Dermaplane + Chemical Peel + Dermalux LED combination for the complete skin reset.

The Science

Why Dermaplaning Before a Chemical Peel Is a Game-Changer

The clinical reason the Dermaplane + Chemical Peel combination produces such dramatically superior results to a peel alone is straightforward and it explains why Ian always recommends dermaplaning first for clients planning any in-clinic skincare treatment.

The outermost stratum corneum of the epidermis the layer of dead skin cells that dermaplaning removes acts as a physical barrier to active ingredient penetration. Chemical peel acids, professional serums and LED light all struggle to pass through this compacted dead cell layer at full therapeutic concentration. When dermaplaning completely removes this barrier before a peel is applied, the peel’s active acids reach the deeper living epidermal layers immediately producing significantly deeper and more effective skin renewal from the same peel formulation. The same principle applies to every professional skincare product applied post-dermaplaning.

  • Chemical peel penetrates significantly deeper on dermaplaned skin
  • Dermalux LED light penetrates more effectively through bare dermis
  • Serums and active ingredients reach dermal layer with zero barrier
  • Results of the combined session exceed the sum of individual treatments

Your Treatment

What Happens During a Dermaplaning Session at Faceit by Ian?

Cleanse & Prep

Ian thoroughly cleanses your skin to remove all traces of makeup, oil and impurities. The skin is degreased to ensure the scalpel moves cleanly and evenly across the skin surface for consistent, safe results.

Dermaplaning

Using a professional surgical scalpel at a precise 45-degree angle, Ian makes short, featherlight strokes across the skin removing dead cells and vellus hair. The sensation is gentle scraping. Most clients describe it as deeply satisfying rather than uncomfortable.

Peel or Mask Applied

Immediately after dermaplaning, Ian applies your chosen treatment Ekseption mask (Caviar, Glacier, Anti-pollution or Ultimate), Million Dollar mask, or chemical peel directly to the freshly treated, barrier-free skin for maximum penetration and efficacy.

Serum, SPF & Finish

Professional serum, moisturiser and SPF 50+ are applied to finish and protect the freshly treated skin. If you have the LED Combo package, your 20-minute Dermalux LED session follows here. You leave with glowing, touchably smooth skin.

Dermaplaning : Frequently Asked Questions

No. Dermaplaning is a gentle, pain-free treatment. The sensation is described as a light scraping or tickling not uncomfortable. Most clients find it relaxing. There is no heat, no chemicals and no needle contact involved in the procedure itself.

Yes and it will apply better than ever. Makeup goes on noticeably smoother on freshly dermaplaned skin. SPF 50+ should always be worn after treatment. Ian recommends using professional skincare products like Exoblanc or Ekseption for 24–48 hours post-treatment to maximise the absorption benefit of the freshly exfoliated skin.

No. Microdermabrasion uses mechanical abrasion (crystals or a diamond tip) to remove dead skin cells. Dermaplaning uses a surgical scalpel to physically shear the dead cell and vellus hair layer away. Dermaplaning also removes peach fuzz, which microdermabrasion does not. The scalpel technique produces a more controlled, thorough and immediate result with zero suction or abrasion-related redness.

The Ekseption Dermaplane at Faceit by Ian is the only dermaplaning treatment in Surrey using Ekseption professional skincare products a clinical-grade brand with formulations specifically optimised for professional aesthetic use. The four Ekseption mask options (Caviar, Glacier, Anti-pollution, Ultimate) allow Ian to tailor the treatment to your specific skin concern in a way no generic dermaplaning facial can.

Monthly treatments are the standard recommendation. Each session removes approximately 3 weeks of dead skin cell accumulation. Scheduling treatments every 4 weeks keeps the skin consistently clear, smooth and radiant and prevents build-up between sessions. Ian advises on the right frequency for your individual skin type at your first appointment.
